We are living in a time of great international trauma and strife. The war in Ukraine, the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and the ongoing immigration crisis on the Mexican border have broken our hearts and leave all of us wondering what we can do to support people forced to flee their homelands. The traumas are enormous - the psychological and physical harm of displacement, living through war, the journey to find a safer home, the fear of what an unknown future holds and leaving loved ones behind.
What we know to be true is that the #1 most important factor in addressing trauma is connection with others. GPS has long supported refugees, especially women and mothers, in the very difficult, and often traumatic time of transition and resettlement. We have trained, and are in the process of training, community leaders to offer our trauma-informed and culturally adaptable group model to people from Somalia, Central America, Afghanistan and now Ukraine. GPS makes it possible for people to create safe spaces to say the unspeakable, cry the tears, and express the fears and grief that only a displaced person can understand.
In this webinar you will learn how GPS can radically change the way that you provide group support to communities facing displacement and the challenges of resettlement. You will also hear from leaders working with refugees and displaced people about how they have implemented GPS successfully to mitigate trauma. Come learn how GPS can support the people you care about and help them to find their stability and resilience as they navigate the many challenges they are facing.
GPS is a strengths-based approach to supporting people that has been successfully and impactfully used with perinatal parents, people in recovery, frontline healthcare workers, students, people who are refugees and immigrants, and many other populations.
Join us for an interactive, free webinar with GPS Group Peer Support to learn more about GPS's trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to group care.
GPS is specially designed for rapid implementation with both experienced support group leaders and those just learning to run groups.
This webinar is especially for you if you work with people who are:
- Refugees, immigrants or evacuees
- Fleeing dangerous homelands
- Have experienced war trauma and/or violence in their homeland
- Have challenges accessing traditional mental health resources because of language and cultural barriers
We hope to see you at the webinar!
